Visconti bas-relief

Point of Historical Interest

In Menaggio it is possible to admire a Visconti Bas-relief of the XIV century.

The 14th century marble slab, originally placed in the ancient praetorium that stood near the baptistery of San Giovanni, commemorates the Visconti dominion over the city of Cremona, allegorically represented by the chain that binds the two coats of arms and by the initials of Gian Galeazzo Visconti.
Milan is depicted with the helmet that surmounts the shield with the biscione, the heraldic symbol of the lords of Milan.
